Voice over IP technology has matured into a proven and reliable replacement for traditional PSTN service and expensive PBX systems. VoIP is very attractive due to the considerable monthly service savings, expanded feature sets, and the inherent benefits of combining voice and data on a unified network. Hosted VoIP solutions, such as Telemedium offers, provide an additional incentive by greatly reducing the initial capital investment to integrate a complete VoIP solution. The market is expanding at an enormous rate. Independent research shows that over the next few years the use of VoIP for both residential and SMB markets will explode.

Residential service is already becoming a mainstream commodity. Consumers are becoming increasingly educated on the benefits of VoIP service and are switching to the technology in mass. After analyzing research from several telecommunications research firms including the Forester and Yankee Group, eMarketer forecast that by 2010, 32.6 million US households will subscribe to a VoIP service--nearly 40% of all broadband households.

The lucrative small business (SMB) market is poised for an even greater explosion. The market is set to almost double every year for the next four years. There are currently very few providers that can offer enterprise class hosted services of the scale and quality that Telemedium can supply. Companies are investing millions to build a stable VoIP solution to bring to market as quickly as possible.

“A survey of businesses reveals that nearly half predict a full migration to VoIP. And, over 1/3 more plan to test the VoIP waters.” - Forester

The Yankee Group, a leading telecom research group, predicts that the business VoIP market will jump to almost $3.3 Billion in reoccurring revenue by 2010. The research shows that 70% of SMB customers prefer hosted VoIP solutions and as such will achieve the highest growth, increasing from $233 million at the end of 2005 to $1.2 Billion in five short years.

"Virtually all major carriers, systems integrators and equipment vendors now offer different varieties of business VoIP services," said Taher Bouzayen, senior analyst, U.S Telecommunications Strategies, in a statement. "And those that are not already exploring ways to capitalize on this revenue opportunity need to start now."
